LAS VEGAS — The Immigration Section of the State Bar of Nevada will host Citizenship Day on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a free, hands-on workshop where lawful permanent residents can get guidance on naturalization eligibility and help preparing their U.S. citizenship applications.
Space will be limited, and appointments are required; eligible participants will receive the location and appointment time when they schedule.
The workshop comes a day after the nation observes Constitution Day and Citizenship Day on Sept. 17, as Hispanic Heritage Month begins and, organizers say, at a moment when reliable information about immigration matters more than ever.
“There is a lot of fear in our community right now, and even more misinformation,” said Africa A. Sanchez, a member of the board of the Immigration Section of the State Bar of Nevada and a Las Vegas immigration attorney. “Citizenship Day is for you. Come with your questions and your papers; no one will test you, and no one will judge you. You’ll sit down with licensed attorneys who will talk to you straight, in your language. Citizenship is peace of mind and a voice for your family, and on Sept. 18, the door is open.”
In general, applicants for naturalization must be at least 18 years old, have held a green card for at least five years (or three, if married to a U.S. citizen), meet residency and physical-presence requirements, be able to demonstrate English and civics knowledge, and show good moral character. No one will be tested at the workshop.
Attendees should bring their Permanent Resident Card, a list of home addresses and employers for the past five years, dates of trips outside the U.S. along with passports, and their most recent federal tax return. A complete document checklist is provided to eligible participants when their appointment is scheduled. The workshop is free of charge; applicants who file will be responsible for the standard USCIS filing fee for the naturalization application.
Citizenship Day is sponsored by the Immigration Section of the State Bar of Nevada and the Nevada Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
